국립생태원 동물 찻길 사고 정보시스템으로 수집되는 사고 정보는 「동물 찻길 사고(로드킬) 조사 및 관리 지침(2018, 환경부, 국토부)」에 의거 전국에 발생되는 사고 정보를 수집하고 있다. 수집된 정보를 기반으로 사고 다발구간 분석·조사, 국가 통계 수립 및 저감방안을 제시하여 동물 찻길 사고 저감대책(환경부, 국토부)의 정책을 지원하는 자료로 활용되고 있다.
